Why Do I Care About YOU Getting Your Affairs in Order?
When I was 19, my chronically ill father died. He left a 37-year-old widow and 4 teenage daughters. What he didn't leave was money to bury himself, savings, investments or anything the family could live on. It was so traumatic for our family that, when I was in my 30's and living a thousand miles from home, I decided to put together in one place all the information my Executor would need in order to "clean me up." I listed whom to call and their contact info, my bank accounts, my debts, what to do with my possessions, etc. The seeds for Leaving Lightly were planted then.
And why do I care about YOU? I'm a minister with an active funeral ministry. I see families dealing with the unavoidable trauma of the death of their loved one. But most of them are ALSO dealing with the AVOIDABLE trauma of not having the information about their deceased loved one that they need, such as information needed for the death certificate, if life insurance proceeds are available for the funeral, and even if the deceased wanted to be buried, cremated or to donate their organs. Frankly, as a compassionate person, I hate to see someone suffer. I created Leaving Lightly to help others avoid the avoidable trauma.
